Special Issue Introduction

To achieve a higher level of construction, the state-of-the-art mathematical and computational algorithms of systems have been in great demand. More importantly, intelligent control, optimization, and safety of complex systems have become extremely significant issues and have received much attention in the next generation industry. It is widely acknowledged among researchers in many disciplines that the prior step of handling these issues is to thoroughly understand the working mechanisms of target complex systems. In the existing literature, a series of approaches, such as model-based designs, system identification, data-driven approaches, and other intelligent schemes, have been capable of figuring out the complicated internal structure of complex systems. However, the practicality validation and the detailed computational mechanisms of the approaches are still in need. Once the intelligence, optimization and safety of complex systems are sorted out, we can implement various methodologies in both control engineering and artificial intelligence to handle a wide range of theoretical or practical problems of key concerns in complex systems. Therefore, it is still an open question to solve the problems of intelligence, optimization and safety for complex systems. Potential topics of this Special Issue include but are not limited to the following:
● Intelligent control techniques for complex systems.
● Performance optimization approaches for complex systems.
● Explainable fault diagnosis methods for complex systems.
● Fault-tolerant control and secure control techniques for complex systems.
● Intelligent system monitoring methods for complex systems.
● Neural network applications for complex systems.
● Computer vision solutions for complex systems.
● Digital twin designs for complex systems.
● Information lossless-based modeling for complex systems.
● Complex systems over communication network.  
  ● Event-based control of complex systems.
