Special Issue Introduction
With ever-increasing global demand and depleting resources for fossil fuels, the oil and gas industry is now positively looking for advanced robotic and automation solutions to increase their productivity and safety. Robotics and automation are high-tech formed by integrating computers, cybernetics, mechanism, information and sensor technology, artificial intelligence, bionics, and other disciplines. It can not only operate in complex environments but also can greatly improve the efficiency and quality of petroleum exploration while saving human resources. The application of robotics and automation in petroleum is an active research field, and we welcome the latest developments in robot design, modeling, control, and automation for petroleum in this special issue. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
● Robotics in a dangerous environment
● Oil and gas reservoir exploration robotics
● Underground robotics
● Detection robotics
● Pipeline robotics
● Underwater robotics
● Robotics vision
● System of intelligent robotics
● Robot automation
